Information
I will explain the process of making chopsticks, the tools used, and safety precautions. We will also introduce the culture and role of chopsticks that have been cherished in Japan.
Material and design selection (20 minutes)
Choose your favorite material from 7 types of wood. Furthermore, the pattern and name to be laser engraved are decided, and the only chopsticks in the world are designed. Each pattern unique to Japan has its own meaning. What kind of wishes would you put on chopsticks?
[Selectable types/patterns]
・Types of wood used for chopsticks: walnut, mansonia, hazel, walnut, hiba, cherry, cherry
・Chopsticks: pattern to be engraved (5 types)
・Chopstick rest shapes: 5 types
・Paulownia box: name, pattern to be engraved (5 types)
Scrape and shape (30 minutes)
Use a plane to sharpen the chopsticks and finish them in a shape that fits your hands. You can experience the joy of making things while feeling the warmth of wood.
Patterning/name digging (laser engraving) (10 minutes)
The pattern and name of your choice will be laser engraved. Detailed designs can also be beautifully expressed, and a special book that will leave a memorable trip will be completed.
Waiting time is break time on the veranda (a traditional Japanese wooden veranda/porch).
Painting/Finishing (10 minutes)
Finished with oil, you can enjoy the natural feel and beautiful grain of the wood.
While waiting, enjoy walking around the garden and visiting Nozaki Kannon Temple (30 minutes)
While waiting for the chopsticks to be finished, enjoy a peaceful time typical of Japan by strolling through the park's gardens and visiting Nozaki Kannon (5 minute walk), which has a history of about 1,300 years.
First experience with chopsticks and a commemorative photo (10 minutes)
I'm actually going to try using chopsticks that have just been completed. Experience the comfort of using chopsticks while enjoying simple games such as grabbing beans. You can also enjoy taking a commemorative photo with the finished original chopsticks.
Put the paulownia box in furoshiki and take it home (20 minutes)
The finished chopsticks are stored in a paulownia box, wrapped in a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth “furoshiki,” and taken home. The staff will also introduce basic ways to wrap furoshiki, so you can take it home as a souvenir of your trip while experiencing Japanese culture.
